Summer’s knocking—and if you’re anything like me, that means two things:

  1. You want to spend as much time outside as possible.

  2. You’d like to maybe feel a little more confident doing it.

But here’s the deal: gym routines? Boring. Complicated training plans? No thanks.

Hiring a coach? Kinda pricey. Enter AI.  Your new favorite accountability buddy, workout planner, and fitness hype man.

Today, I’m sharing how to use AI to build your own outdoor-focused fitness plan—whether you're a runner, biker, stroller-walker, or backyard kettlebell warrior.

Step 1: Ask ChatGPT to Build You a Custom Plan

Start simple:

"Make me a 3-day-per-week outdoor fitness plan that combines cardio and bodyweight strength. I’m 42, like hiking, and have 30 minutes max."

Tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity will instantly create a tailored plan with rest days, progression ideas, and even warmups. You can adjust for age, gear, goals, and time.

Step 2: Track Progress Like a Pro

Sure, you could use your Notes app. But AI can do better:

  • Use Notion AI to create a habit tracker and auto-analyze your weekly progress.

  • Pull data from Strava or Garmin Connect and paste it into ChatGPT for training reviews.

Real-world tip: I recently copied a week of runs from my Garmin training plan and asked ChatGPT to compare them to my planned workouts for marathon prep. It analyzed distance, pacing, and effort—and gave me insight on where I was under or over-performing. It was like having a coach… without the cost.

Try this:

“Compare these 5 runs to my training plan and tell me what I’m doing right—or wrong.”

Step 3: Build AI-Generated Workout Playlists

Yes, this is a thing—and yes, it’s awesome.Tools like PlaylistAI or Riffusion help you generate playlists based on your vibe, not just genre.

Try prompts like:

“Create a playlist for a 30-minute trail run starting slow and ending fast with inspiring beats.”

Because nothing ruins a workout faster than bad music.

Step 4: Make it Fun Again

Here’s the best part: with AI in your pocket, you can experiment. You’re not locked into one plan.Hate running? Ask for low-impact alternatives that still get your heart rate up.Bored of your loop? Ask for new trail ideas, map integrations, and even gamify your routine using tools like:
